ComCom Project, Cubatão, outskirts of São Paulo State

We spent the day in this part of São Paulo State called Cubatão. It is an example of how urbanisation projects can be done well. We saw favelas can be transformed and improved without moving people away from where they live. Someone who was with us said it is an example of 'Institutional Activism', where people within, in this case, government, decide to push barriers to make real improvements. There are loads of planting and environmental projects (they said it used to be the most polluted area of the world) and there is a big Petrobras factory there. We went on their local radio station to discuss the film before having a small screening on one of their art centres.
